[see below for pre-canon update information] Following Vergil's first round in the City, he was scooped up and taken back home, where he lived out the canon events in both the manga (one year before his rising Temen-Ni-Gru, when he was 18) and Devil May Cry 3, where he officially raised the tower, and in the end descended into Hell to attempt a feat not unlike his and Dante's father, by trying to take on Mundus. Vergil has returned to the City two years after this, and two years of capture in the bowls of Hell. Vergil is on a fast-track to becoming the carbon-copy of his father, before Sparda turned to the light, and to the dimensions that Mundus wants to assure Vergil will not betray him in any way, shape or form. Vergil is, more or less, brainwashed into being Mundus's puppy. The most important point to make here, however, is that Vergil's "training" is far from complete, so he still has coherent moments where he's the old Vergil we know and love. Sadface, because we know this won't last. In a subconscious attempt to keep himself from losing it entirely, Vergil refuses to eat or sleep beyond the absolute minimal requirements--as a means to keep his strength down and prevent himself from hurting Dante. However, in a twist of irony, Vergil decided to make a deal with the deities after his brother bitchfit at him about not being strong enough to obtain more power. He's also currently in possession of Nero's Devil Bringer arm, which he transplanted onto himself after Lady attacked him and destroyed his right arm with the use of Holy Water. |

ORIGINS |
Not much is known about the origins of Vergil, and he tends to keep it that way. Vergil ghosts from place to place, sucking from it as much as he can in the form of knowledge and money, before disappearing to the next. Despite this and his high-style behavior and way of dress, Vergil lives very simplistically. He rarely offers an age or a last name, and when he does, they both alternate. For those who come into Vergil's trust, he will offer up the following bit of information: His father was a demon. (Namely, the most legendary demon in his world, who once reigned over the armies of Hell, only to turn against them to protect the human race.) This is the core of what drives Vergil, at least on the surface, to want to break through the seal his father placed around Hell and obtain the power his father had to sacrifice to make that seal. Vergil's motive as a result of obtaining this power is unclear, and whether he's even thought about it thus far is unknown due to it being such a distant possibility. As an aside to his quest to shatter Hell's seal, Vergil seeks any and all means of power in existance. The means justify what comes in the end, he believes, making all his actions a self-proclaimed mission full of honor. Vergil will not act out in any way without reason (or unless someone manages to strike a chord of his youthful anger he tries to supress just so). Vergil also will not harm those who cannot fight back (unless, hypocritically, it must happen to help him edge to his overall goal). Vergil seeks to meet and understand anyone he can, without allowing them to indulge in too much information about him. In the end, Vergil wants to know who he can use to help reach his goals. |
